The Harbour Authority of Pender Harbour (HAPH) was established…
to allow the Pender Harbour Community
to manage Federal fishing harbours in the area.
The HAPH is a not-for-profit corporation registered under the Canada Not-for-profit Corporations Act. Harbour Authority of Pender Harbour is a Federally incorporated not-for-profit organization contracted by Small Craft Harbours (SCH).
SCH is a division of the Department of Fisheries and Oceans designed to manage, maintain and operate the DFO wharves at Madeira Park (including Millennium Park), Secret Cove, Hospital Bay, and Whiskey Slough.
The Harbour Authority of Pender Harbour facilities are a major economic and community force in coastal BC.
While the primary purpose of our fishing harbours is to serve commercial fishing users, the harbours also serve as a platform that allows and enables a variety of recreation, aquaculture, tourist services and other activities.
Although the primary purpose of the SCH facilities is to support the commercial fishing industry, these facilities also serve other commercial and pleasure craft operators, as well as the surrounding community.
We believe in Pender Harbour, and are committed to performing a vital service for our local community.
We have proudly provided usage of our facilities for many local events such as The April Tools Challenge, the Halloween Fireworks and recently a very successful Christmas Fair put on by the wonderful volunteers from Serendipity Child Development.
Our docks have been a vital link
between visiting boaters and the commercial retailers
in Madeira Park.
Sometimes, in the high season, it can become a little chaotic at the local liquor and grocery stores with all the increased traffic from visitors, but this income is badly needed to keep these amenities available for the rest of us living here year-round.
